Financial crisis

Is your debt overwhelming you? I know mine sure is!

What if we work together to crush our debt one step at a time?

Are you willing to hang in there with me?

Accountability is important when you are developing healthier habits.

I understand all of your debt has to be paid. I also realize the bigger debts are more difficult to pay off all at once, especially if your income is less than your debt.

However, more often than not, we tend to accumulate more debt than we need.

I have been guilty of that more than I care to admit!

I am tired of living paycheck to paycheck and being stressed about money! Aren’t you?

So, my challenge to you is to say NO to any new debts. (I will say NO too!) Then follow the steps below to start zapping your debt like a boss!

I am not going to ask you to do anything I am not willing to do myself because getting out of debt is extremely important to me! And I know it is important to you as well.

Kick unwanted debts out of your life once and for all!

Practical Steps You Can Take Now

  • List all of your debts.
  • Call each creditor or write them a letter to say you are creating an affordable plan to pay your debt and inform the creditor how much you can afford to pay monthly right now. (I have done this in the past and it does work. Creditors are usually willing to hear you out when you are diligently trying to pay them back).
  • Make a commitment to pay the agreed upon amount until the debt is paid off or you can come up with a reasonable settlement amount.Creditors can work with you to decrease the amount owed to settle the debt if you are persistent in making payments on time.
  • Start with the smallest and most affordable debt first.
  • Pay your debts down using the debt snowball method. (Use this method to pay off credit cards, personal loans, doctor bills, or any other type of debt.)
  • If you have student loans, go to Student Loans.gov and sign up for the Income-Based Repayment plan. Your payments will be reduced significantly based on your income and after a period of time, your loans may be forgiven, especially if your income doesn’t significantly increase over the life of your payments. You will have to recertify your income every year to keep your payments low.
  • Check your credit report for any inaccurate information, fraudulent activity, or debts that are more than 10 years old.
  • Write a letter to the credit bureaus and ask them to remove the inaccurate information, old debts, and fraudulent activity. Sometimes, even after you have paid off a debt, credit bureaus leave it on your credit report, which stinks because that lowers your credit score. Writing the credit bureaus to have debts removed is a good idea because it eliminates a black mark from your credit record, especially if you want to buy a house someday. (If you have any debt, a mortgage is really the only “good” debt to have because you get tax credits.)
