Have you experienced trauma so devastating that you weren’t sure you’d ever recover?
May I be completely transparent with you? I’ve experienced more than a few traumas. And I’m here to tell you that you aren’t alone.
I wasn’t sure if I would recover because I was paralyzed by depression and fear. As a child, I witnessed domestic violence and drug use on a daily basis. In addition, I was sexually abused during elementary school.
I subsequently married my first husband (in my late teens) who was abusive and addicted to drugs. That life was normal for me. It was all I knew. I created a self-made prison with no escape.
That is until I caught my first husband in the act of sexually abusing our child. Soon after I caught him, he was prosecuted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Consequently, we divorced in 2008 after 15 years of marriage. The betrayal resembled a knife piercing my heart.
And as a result of the trauma, my children and I struggled with Post Traumatic Stress and shame was an unwelcomed companion. I sank into a deep pit of depression I couldn’t climb out of without help.
HOPE IN THE DARKNESS
My Children needed help too, so we found hope in the One (Jesus) who heals every hurt, habit and hang up. He led us to Counseling and Celebrate Recovery, which are tools God used to help us work through our devastating issues.
He used Counselors and Mentors to help us get to the other side of our pain. And because I’ve walked through extreme betrayal, pain, addiction and abuse, I’m compelled to help others in the same situations through Counseling, Celebrate Recovery, and writing on this blog
This blog paints a true picture of the healing power of Jesus Christ. He pulled me out of a dark pit, cleaned up my mess, and allowed me to cross paths with Doug, my new husband. We tied the knot in 2011. Doug’s been a marvelous example of God’s love in our 6-year marriage to me and my children.
